About Mr Arthur Cummings
Mr. Arthur Cummings is Consultant Eye Surgeon at the Wellington Eye Clinic and Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Beacon Hospital. He has vast experience in LASIK and refractive and cataract surgery and is an internationally acclaimed expert on laser eye surgery, keratoconus, custom lens replacement and cataract surgery.
Mr. Cummings has been at the Wellington Eye Clinic since 1998 after relocating from South Africa. He has performed more than 50,000 LASIK procedures and 15,000 cataract and other intra-ocular lens procedures. He is involved in lecturing and teaching refractive surgery both locally and internationally and has presented more than 450 invited lectures at international meetings on the topic of laser eye surgery, corneal cross-linking and cataract surgery. He is a co-presenter of the WaveLight Refractive Fellowship Course to surgeons from all over the world and more than 200 ophthalmologists have already attended this course. He is the only currently practicing ophthalmologist Irish member of the International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC) which was founded by Sir Harold Ridley, the first ophthalmologist to implant an intraocular lens. Dr Cummings works closely with industry and is involved with many industry partners as investigator in clinical trials and medical advisory board capacity. He is widely published including multiple scientific and trade journal articles, 14 book chapters and 2 books as co-editor. He has received awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the International Society of Refractive Surgeons (ISRS), the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS) and the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (SASCRS). He has been voted to the Top 100 most influential ophthalmologists globally in 2018, 2019 and 2020 by The Ophthalmologist trade journal.
