About the Clinic

We've been helping people see clearly for over 40 years

Our Story

The Wellington Eye Clinic was founded in 1980 and our name comes from our original Clinic location on Wellington Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4.

In 1990, we were the first Clinic to perform laser refractive surgery in Ireland. Mr Arthur Cummings, Consultant Ophthalmologist and our Clinic Medical Director, first joined the Wellington Eye Clinic in 1998 after relocating from his native South Africa. He intended to stay for 18 months but as they say, the rest is history!

Our busy practice soon outgrew our Ballsbridge premises and in December 2006, we relocated to our state-of-the-art and current premises at the Beacon Medical Campus in Sandyford, Dublin 18.

The Wellington Eye Clinic offers a wide range of services including laser eye surgery, cataract surgery, customised lens replacement (CLR) with blended vision or the latest advanced technology IOLs (AT-IOLs), phakic implant surgery (ICL), corneal cross-linking and other surgical and contact lens options for keratoconus, full ophthalmology assessment and treatment for various ocular conditions. The diagnostic capability at the clinic is unsurpassed in Ireland and you can be assured that this Advanced Visual Assessment will be the most comprehensive eye exam that you have ever had.

Laser procedures are performed in our dedicated operating theatre within the clinic. To date, we have performed over 55,000 procedures.

Lens (CLR and ICL) and cataract procedures are performed in the adjacent Beacon Hospital and to date we have performed over 15,000 procedures.

Our 20-person team has more than 175 years of experience between them! The Wellington Eye Clinic is passionate about vision correction and helping our patients to achieve the best possible outcomes and vision. We believe in improving the quality of life by improving the quality of vision.
