Seeing the Difference: Why Outcomes Matter in Vision Correction
When it comes to your eyes, outcomes matter. Not marketing promises. Not clever slogans. Results.
January 12, 2026
At the Wellington Eye Clinic, we believe the most important measure of success is what our patients see and how they feel, after surgery.
We routinely measure outcomes because if you’re putting your trust, time, and money into something as important as your vision, you deserve to know exactly how well it works.
Over the years, we’ve been privileged to care for tens of thousands of patients. Each with their own story, concerns, and hopes for better vision. While everyone is different, one thing remains constant: people want to know they’re making the right choice. For us, that means showing them the numbers that matter.
Why We Measure What We Measure
Our outcomes dashboard tracks more than just who reaches 20/20. We measure five key areas:
Visual clarity
How many patients achieve 20/20 (so-called “perfect vision”) or better? How many reach driving-standard vision (20/40)?Accuracy
Did we hit the precise prescription target for each eye?Enhancement rates
How often do we need to refine or top up a result?Safety
How do we perform on key safety measures, such as posterior capsule rupture, in cataract surgery?Quality of life
Are patients free from glasses in their day-to-day life? Are they seeing clearly and comfortably in the ways that matter most?
We’re proud to answer those questions with real-world data. And even prouder that our results stand up to scrutiny, year after year.
These metrics help you make informed decisions. But they also hold us to the highest standard, as a team and as individual surgeons.
The Results: What You Can Expect at WEC
Let’s talk numbers, and what they actually mean for your life.
LASIK
94% of patients with conventional LASIK achieve 20/20 vision or better
100% of patients with Digital Twin Ray-Tracing LASIK reach 20/20 or better
Fewer than 1% require an enhancement within five years
All LASIK patients receive a five-year enhancement warranty
What it means: For the vast majority, LASIK works first time and delivers lasting clarity.
ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens)
95% achieve 20/20 vision or better
Fewer than 2% require enhancement within five years
Most of these patients had very high prescriptions and were not suitable for LASIK
What it means: If you’re not suitable for LASIK, ICL is a safe, powerful alternative with equally strong outcomes.
CLR (Custom Lens Replacement)
98.5% report no need for glasses in daily life
94% achieve 20/20 vision or better
11% enhancement rate to refine a target to achieve the above results
Lifelong freedom from developing cataracts
What it means: For patients over 45, it’s not just better vision. It’s long-term freedom.
Cataract Surgery
98% report spectacle independence
Posterior capsule rupture rate of 0.054% (well below the 1–2% global benchmark)
Many opt for premium lenses to reduce or remove the need for glasses
What it means: It’s more than removing a cloudy lens. It’s a chance to upgrade your vision.
For those aiming to be free of glasses for both distance and near vision, and who are already older than 45 years of age (therefore, already presbyopic).
LASIK blended vision: 99% glasses-free if previously myopic, 98% if previously hyperopic and 99.5% if previously emmetropic (i.e. only needed reading glasses)
CLR with IROF and *FROF IOLs (Advanced Technology IOLs): 99% no longer require glasses for distance or near vision. (*Increased Range of Focus **Full Range of Focus)
All outcomes data is based on Wellington Eye Clinic’s internal results, captured through Nathean Analytics and Acuitas Electronic Medical Records over a rolling 24-month period
Why This Matters
Vision correction is a big decision. Whether you’re coming in for LASIK, ICL, CLR or cataract surgery, you’re not just buying a procedure. You’re choosing to change how you see the world and how you live your life.
That’s why we track and publish our results. Not to boast, but because transparency builds trust, and because patients deserve more than vague claims.
At WEC, outcomes aren’t just technical. They’re personal. When someone tells us they’ve seen their grandchild’s face clearly for the first time or packed for a holiday without a single pair of glasses (except for their brand-new designer sunglasses), that’s what matters.
No Guesswork. Just Confidence.
Every patient at WEC receives a complete diagnostic work-up through our Lifestyle Vision Design process. This ensures that the recommendation you receive fits not just your eyes, but your life. Whether surgery is right for you or not, we’ll always be honest.
We know these kinds of results aren’t the norm everywhere. But at WEC, they are.
Because we measure them. We share them. And we stand by them.
